It doesn’t matter who will win the South African minimumweight title contest between Mthokozisi Ngxaka and Thinumzi Gqola, the champion will still be from the Eastern Cape.
However, it remains to be seen whether the title will remain in the King Sabatha Dalindyebo Municipality or Gqola will take it to the Buffalo City Metro.
Mthatha-born Ngxaka is going to defend his SA minimumweight title against Gqola from Duncan Village, East London, at the Portuguese Hall in Turffontein, Johannesburg, on Sunday.
And this is Ngxaka’s first defence of the title he captured after he stopped Thami Luthuli in the fourth round at the Orient Theatre in East London in March this year. It was in the same bill that Gqola stopped Malakhi Sobolo in the first round.
With a professional record of nine wins, five knockouts, two defeats and a draw, Ngxaka won his last four fights. Gqola, meanwhile, will be fighting for the fourth time since December 2022. He has four wins with a knockout and two losses.
