Shannon Strydom upstaged his father Gert Strydom, a veteran boxing trainer, as he led his boxer Chris Thompson to victory at the Carnival City in Brakpan, Ekurhuleni, on Saturday evening.

Thompson became a two-time South African heavyweight champion after he dethroned Shaune Potgieter via a seventh round technical knockout victory.

It took Thompson almost three years to reclaim the title which he lost after he was defeated by Keaton Gomes in December 2022. Following the win over Potgieter, Thompson has now won his last four fights.

Meanwhile, Almighty Moyo from Zimbabwe redeemed himself with a fourth round technical knockout victory over Onke Duku.

This was the first time Moyo fought since his shock first round stoppage loss to Botswana boxer Kagiso Bagwasi five months ago.

And another Zimbabwean boxer Sinenkosi Mlotshwa beat Mawande Mbusi from the North West on points.
