Just less than nine months since he teamed up with Brian Mitchell as his manager, Mdantsane-born boxer Siyakholwa Kuse has now secured a world title shot away from home.

Initially announced that he was going to defend his World Boxing Council (WBC) Silver strawweight title against Joey Canoy from the Philippines in October, Kuse is taking another route now.

Following his win over Filipino boxer Samuel Salva in May, Kuse is now scheduled to challenge current WBC strawweight champion Melvin Jerusalem in Manila, Philippines, in October.

The 31-year-old Jerusalem won the title after he defeated now retired Japanese boxer Yudai Shigeoka via a split decision in Japan in March last year. Jerusalem has since defended the title twice – beating Shigeoka in March and Luis Castillo from Mexico last September
