A heart-broken Sibusiso ‘Mabhere’ Zingange has apologised to his fans after his much-awaited vacant South African junior-welterweight title fight against Aphiwe Boyiya, which was scheduled for Sun City on Saturday evening, was called off.

The fight collapsed on Friday evening just a few hours after Zingange and Boyiya had made the required weight at the official weigh-in in Johannesburg.

“Unfortunately, the fight is called off. The tournament is off completely. Sorry to everyone. Sorry, especially to the people who tried to help, who took their time. To the sponsors, I’m really, really sorry. I was also looking forward to becoming a champion again,” Zingange said.

And according to TLB Boxing Promotions boss Joyce Kungwane, the tournament got cancelled after her partners pulled out at the eleventh hour.

“TLB Boxing Promotions did everything required, but sadly, our partners pulled out at the final stage, leaving us unable to continue. We are truly sorry to our boxers, supporters and everyone who has been looking forward to this event,” Kungwane said.

Meanwhile, Zingange, a former SA junior-lightweight champion, is yet to lace his gloves since he defeated Talent Baloyi at The Galleria in Sandton, Johannesburg, six months ago.
