Lindelani Sibisi’s quest to get into international ratings will take him into next month’s clash against Dave ‘The Hunter’ Peñalosa from the Philippines.

The reigning South African featherweight champion will oppose Peñalosa at the Estcourt Town Hall in KwaZulu-Natal on Saturday, 11 October. At stake will be the vacant IBF International featherweight title.

Confirming the fight, Sibisi’s manager Colin ‘Nomakanjani’ Nathan from NO DOUBT Management said: “Yes, the fight is going to take place. We are just sorting out visas now.”

This is going to be Sibisi’s first fight since he dethroned former South African featherweight champion Zolisa Batyi via a 10th round stoppage at East London’s Orient Theatre in May.

Peñalosa, on the other hand, has already fought three times this year, winning his last fight when he defeated Chinese opponent Weiyi Jiang in a World Boxing Foundation Silver lightweight title contest last month.

The 34-year-old Peñalosa is the same boxer who lost to Lerato Dlamini in a World Boxing Council (WBC) Silver featherweight title fight at the King Abdullah Sports City in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, in July 2019. – Monwabisi Jimlongo
