News that some, if not many boxing followers, have been waiting for has finally been confirmed as Landile ‘Man Down’ Ngxeke has finally joined Colin ‘Nomakanjani’ Nathan’s NO DOUBT Management.
Ngxeke’s move to Nathan has been long time coming as the current South African, IBF International and WBO Intercontinental champion has enhanced his chances of fighting for a world title.
“Yes, it’s true that Landi has joined me. I have been following Man Down’s career for a while and I think he has what it takes to become a world champion,” Nathan said.
Ngxeke said: “I’m very happy to be here. I have always wanted to work with Nomakanjani because I believe he will make me fulfil my dream of becoming a world champion. I’m getting older, time is not waiting for me. I have a family to take care of as I am the only breadwinner. I wanted to join NO DOUBT because I want to fight for the world title. I know he can deliver this and the rest will be up to me.”
With the IBF already ordering Mexican Jose Salas Reyes to face Japan’s Takuma Inoue for the vacant world title, and Inoue having declined it in favour of fighting Tenshin Nasukawa in November in Japan, it will be interesting to see what Nathan has in store for Ngxeke.
Locally, Ngxeke will be promoted by Larry Wainstein of Boxing 5 Promotions, who is in partnership with NO DOUBT Management.
Initially, it was reported in the Philippines that Filipino boxer Kenneth Llover would fight against Ngxeke in an International Boxing Federation (IBF) bantamweight elimination bout in Kyrgyzstan on Sunday, 26 October. Llover will now face off against Luciano Baldor on the same date.
Ngxeke is fresh from a vacant IBF International and World Boxing Organisation (WBO) Intercontinental bantamweight titles victory over Mexican boxer Eric Gamboa in June.
The Sada-born Ngxeke, a former SA junior-bantamweight champion, has a professional record of 16 victories with eight stoppages, a loss and a draw.
Meanwhile, the 30-year-old Ngxeke is rated fifth by the IBF, seventh in the World Boxing Council (WBC) and third in the WBO ratings.
