It’s a fight that both boxers are determined to win as they chase the South African light-heavyweight title glory at the Emperors Palace in Kempton Park, Ekurhuleni, on Saturday evening.

Bryan Thysse and Michael Head collide against each other for the second time in their professional careers as they fight for the vacant SA light-heavyweight crown at the Golden Gloves tournament.

Thysse, who is trained by Damien Durandt, wants to add another title to his family’s boxing titles. His late dad, Andre, was a national super-middleweight champion while his brother, Brandon, is the reigning SA junior-middleweight titlist.

“The training camp was good. We are well prepared for the fight. It’s gonna be a tough fight on the night. We know what we need to do on the night,” Thysse said.

After losing to Thysse on debut in November 2022, Head is determined to avenge the loss and be crowned the new SA light-heavyweight champion.

“It’s obviously a big fight. It’s a rematch for me. We prepared well, we are ready, we are strong,” Head, who is trained by Vusi Mtolo, remarked.

Thysse is unbeaten in seven fights having won six with two of those victories coming from stoppages plus a draw. On the other hand, Head has three wins with a single knockout, a loss and a draw.

This is going to be Thysse’s third fight of the year after registering a draw with Jackson Kaptein three months ago and a win over Tuvia Wewege in March.

Head, meanwhile, beat Bonginkosi Nhlapho from Middelburg in March. And this was his first fight since a draw against the same Nhlapho in November 2023. – Monwabisi Jimlongo
