Plans to have the boxer-manager contract between Landile ‘Man Down’ Ngxeke and Colin ‘Nomakanjani’ Nathan from NO DOUBT Management have failed.
This came after the board of Boxing South Africa (BSA) confirmed on Tuesday that the contract between Ngxeke and Nathan is valid and legal as they entered into a boxer-manager relationship while the Sada-born champion was not contracted to anyone.
The validity of the contract was challenged by Xaba Promotions boss Ayanda Matiti and his sister Sibongile Matiti from Zbashy Promotions and Events last week after Ngxeke, who is scheduled to fight against Mexican boxer Jose Salas Reyes in a vacant International Boxing Federation (IBF) bantamweight title contest, joined Nathan two weeks ago.
The Matiti siblings, through their lawyer Akhona Mafani from Mafani and Company Incorporated, wrote to BSA board chairperson Ayanda Zamantungwa Khumalo objecting to the contract and calling for it to be declared null and void.
In the process of fighting for Ngxeke to return to them, the Matitis also accused BSA provincial manager in the Eastern Cape Siya Vabaza-Booi of sabotaging them, claiming that she failed to provide them with blank contract forms to fill with the South African bantamweight champion.
The board’s decision is based on the fact that none of the Matitis have a contract with Ngxeke. The former South African junior-bantamweight champion’s contract with Zbashy Promotions entered into in June 2022 expired in June 2024.
Meanwhile, the board has said that BSA chief executive officer Tsholofelo Lejaka and Vabaza-Booi will be available should the Matitis want to sign a promotional contract with Ngxeke, who’s without a promoter even though Nathan had announced that Boxing 5 Promotions would promote his fights.
The board also said that the allegations levelled against Vabaza-Booi are of a serious nature and should be looked at.
