It looks like the vacant South African junior-welterweight title contest between Aphiwe Boyiya and Sibusiso Zingange will finally take place after a number of postponements.

Initially, this fight was scheduled for July and then postponed twice to September. However, the fight collapsed in September after Zingange’s withdrawal following a disagreement on a new date.

At the time, a new date, which was Tuesday, 23 September, was proposed hours after both Boyiya and Zingange had made the weight during a weigh-in held in Midrand as the tournament was set to take place at the Sun City Superbowl in Rustenburg, North West.

Now the fight between Boyiya and Zingange is going to be held at the Nangoza Jebe Hall in New Brighton, Gqeberha, on Saturday, 29 November.

Confirming the fight, Thami Malinga, who is one of Zingange’s trainers, said: “Yes, the fight is going to be held on the 29th of next month.”

The national title was left vacant after former champion Ntethelelo Nkosi relinquished it and opted to take part in the WBC Grand Prix in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Nkosi lost in the semi-finals of the competition. – Monwabisi Jimlongo
