World Boxing Council (WBC) title hopeful, Ricardo ‘Magic Man’ Malajika, has been given a great send off before he jets out of South Africa for Japan on Wednesday.
Malajika is scheduled to face off against unbeaten Japanese opponent, Tomoya Tsuboi, in a vacant WBC junior-bantamweight title fight in Tokyo, Japan, on Sunday, 27 September.
Speaking on Tuesday at the Brian Mitchell Boxing Academy in Edenvale, BSA board chairperson, Ayanda Zamantungwa Khumalo, said: “We are very excited. We’ve had quite a few opportunities for WBC titles this year. We’ve already had two this year and we are hoping to secure this one as the third belt.
“I’m really looking forward to Malajika coming back with the belt. I will be at the airport to welcome him. I’m very excited and confident that he will do it. He has a very impressive record, he is a very good boxer and very disciplined. I do believe that he will create magic in Japan.”
Malajika, who is the reigning International Boxing Organisation (IBO) junior-bantamweight titlist, goes to the fight carrying a record of 17 wins with 12 knockouts and two losses while Tsuboi has won all his three fights.
Meanwhile, Malajika’s manager, Brian Mitchell, is also confident that his boxer will return home with the WBC belt.
“We’re going to Japan to win the WBC title, the biggest title in the world and we’re very excited. We really thank BSA, Golden Gloves and everyone for the support. We’ll bring back the WBC title to South Africa,” Mitchell, an erstwhile World Boxing Association (WBA) and International Boxing Federation (IBF) junior-lightweight champion, said.
