After impressive performances against Leeann Jansen van Vuuren and Zizo Skoti in August and September respectively, Sibulele ‘Lova’ Soboois hopes to continue with her good run as she faces Sibabaliwe Gwebityala later this month.
Soboois, who was born in Khayelitsha, Cape Town, is due to clash against Gwebityala from Kuni village in East London in a fight which pits two unbeaten boxers with identical records.
With each boxer having won all four fights and registered a single knockout, Soboois and Gwebityala clash in an eight rounds vacant World Boxing Federation (WBF) Africa female junior-flyweight title fight at the Nangoza Jebe Hall in New Brighton, Gqeberha, on Saturday, 29 November.
“I’m ready for this fight. This is a big fight for me and I’m gonna win it. Gwebityala is a good boxer and I expect her to come to me during the fight,” Soboois remarked.
With a serious lack of resources in women’s boxing, Soboois whose family is originally from Komani in the Eastern Cape, hopes to land a sponsorship going to the Gwebityala fight.
“There’s a lot going into this fight. That’s why I’m pleading with anyone who’s willing to sponsor me. We as female fighters need resources,” Soboois said.
Soboois’ fight against Gwebityala will form part of a 10-bout tournament, which is hoped to breathe more life into boxing in the Nelson Mandela Bay region. – Monwabisi Jimlongo
