A threat of a lawsuit as well as allegations of the use of banned substances are flying all over the place in the aftermath of Nozipho Bell’s loss to newly-crowned South African female junior-lightweight champion Bernice Ferreira.
The team that led Bell to war when she lost her national title on Saturday has alleged that her conqueror Ferreira used banned substances during the fight.
It’s been alleged that the fight referee on her second visit to Ferreira’s dressing room, discovered that she was using capsules ahead of the Bell fight.
“We have drawn up a letter with a lawyer to Boxing SA. I want to give them seven days to respond,” Bell’s trainer Vicky Phillips told Ink Sport.
And David Faas, a member of the Nelson Mandela Bay Boxing Promoters Association who has promoted some of Bell’s fights, said: “I have been told that Berince was found with tablets and they were then taken to physicians. Bernice was never tested after the fight. Actually, the fight shouldn’t have gone ahead because it was already known before it started that Bernice had been found with tablets.”
Contacted for comment, Ferreira’s award-winning manager Colleen McAusland refuted the claims and also warned against dragging her boxer’s name through the mud.
“That’s not how we do things. They are sore losers. Do you think there’s anyone who would take a banned substance in front of the referee? Nozipho took a lot of punches from Bernice and we won fair and square. I will sue them if they continue tarnishing Bernice’s reputation,” McAusland said.
Hloks Ramagole, who is the Boxing South Africa (BSA) provincial manager in Gauteng, said: “We confiscated the tablets and we have since been told that those are multi-vitamins.” – Monwabisi Jimlongo

Wow. Bell is not challenging the result of the fight. Have the tablets found on Bernice by the referee been tested? Simple question. If not, stop bleating like a goat until that has been done.
Simple question. Was Bernice found in possession of tablets by the referee? If Bernice had declared them, why did tne referee still inform the authorities? Something does not make sense here..
