Xolani Jamani of X Boxing Promotions is threatening to take Boxing South Africa (BSA) to court for “lack of transparency” regarding the allocation of government funds to Eastern Cape promoters.
Already, Jamani has briefed Gqeberha-based legal eagle Bathandwa Ndamase to take BSA to court if the fistic regulator’s answers don’t satisfy him.
At the centre of Jamani’s court threat is a R1,2 million grant from the Eastern Cape Department of Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture (DSRAC). Grant recipients have already been identified and received letters confirming that their bids were successful.
“They sent me a letter of regret saying that my application had been unsuccessful. I asked them to provide me with the minutes of the meeting of the adjudication committee where the decision was taken. They never gave me the minutes to me. I have already briefed my lawyers on the next step to take,” Jamani said.
Jamani added: “I also received a letter saying that my company was not tax compliant. That is a false claim because my company is tax compliant. I even sent an email to the BSA board chairperson Ayanda Khumalo. Unfortunately, she has neither responded nor not acknowledged receiving my email.”
Responding to Jamani’s claims, BSA chief executive officer Tsholofelo Lejaka said: “Mr Jamani has been provided with information, which he has requested and he’s entitled to, as an unsuccessful bidder. We do understand his unhappiness and sympathise with him for his frustration.
“Unfortunately, there are rules that govern these processes and those can’t be compromised to accommodate anyone’s rage, threats or frustration.”
