The South African Under-23 national team are settling at the Olympic Village after landing in Tokyo, Japan, on Thursday.
The Under-23s, who travelled to Japan via Ethiopia, will have their first training session in the Asian country on Thursday evening.
“We have waited so long for these Games to take place and it is an honour for us all to be here. The players understand that this is a prestigious event that will definitely take their careers to the next level as playing in the Olympics is a career highlight for every player,” SA Under-23 coach David Notoane said.
Notoane left South Africa with 19 players as Reeve Frosler and Nkosingiphile Ngcobo from Kaizer Chiefs will join the team after Amakhosi’s CAF Champions League final against Al Ahly from Egypt.
Amakhosi are playing against the Red Devils at Stade Mohammed V in Casablanca, Morocco, on Saturday (21h00).
Meanwhile, Notoane’s boys face hosts Japan in their first match at the Tokyo Stadium on Thursday, 22 July at 13h00.
Three days later, they clash against France at the Saitana Stadium (10h00) and then face Mexico in their final group match at the Sapporo Dome (13h00).
