South African champion Moyisi Booi handed Lwando Mgabi his first career loss as he stopped him in the fourth round at the Orient Theatre in East London on Friday evening.

As a result of the fourth round technical knockout victory, Booi successfully made the first defence of his South African junior-bantamweight title. Before fight referee Siphiwo Mbini stopped the fight, Booi threw a flurry of blows which decked Mgabi earlier.

This was the second successive stoppage win for Booi in an SA junior-bantamweight title contest as he stopped Ntethelelo Magcaba in the eighth round to win the crown at the same venue three months ago.

Duncan Village-born Mgabi, who is based in Khayelitsha, Cape Town, was attempting to reclaim the SA title he lost on the scales after he failed to make the required weight before his fifth round stoppage win over Sechaba Zuma in Estcourt, KwaZulu-Natal, six months ago.
