It’s a coup as boxing promoter Loyiso Magqaza has added world rated and unbeaten Siseko ‘Panda’ Teyisi to the roster of his boxers at Ground Up Sports Promotions.

The reigning South African and International Boxing Federation (IBF) Intercontinental junior-flyweight champion has been ‘homeless’ since he left Xaba Promotions following a contractual dispute last month.

“We have signed the contract with Ground Up Promotions and we are happy with everything,” Teyisi’s manager Bongani Bozo confirmed on Monday evening.

Mdantsane-born Teyisi is rated seventh by the IBF, one place below his compatriot and homeboy Sivenathi ‘Special One’ Nontshinga, who is a two-time world champion.

Teyisi has won all his nine fights with seven of those wins coming from stoppages. And in his last fight, Teyisi stopped Athenkosi Thongwana in the 12th round during their SA junior-flyweight title fight at the Orient Theatre in East London in December.

Meanwhile, Ground Up Sports Promotions happens to be also the home to another world rated boxer Nhlanhla ‘Mount Kilimanjaro’ Tyirha.

The Mdantsane-born Tyirha is the reigning IBF Intercontinental minimumweight champion. He’s rated 10th by the IBF and is in 12th position in the World Boxing Council (WBC) ratings.

Current SA female bantamweight titlist Sharadene Fortuin from Seymour in the Raymond Mhlaba Municipality is also in the books of Ground Up Sports Promotions. – Monwabisi Jimlongo
