Kaya Mlata will be hoping his unbeaten record will still be intact after he had fought against veteran two-time South African junior-featherweight champion Bongani ‘Wonderboy’ Mahlangu.

Unbeaten in nine fights, Mlata, who has stopped four of his victims, is scheduled to fight against the 46-year-old Mahlangu at the Cabo Beach, V and A Waterfront, Cape Town, on Saturday, 18 April.

“I can confirm that I will be fighting against Bongani Mahlangu in a non-title fight in April,” Mlata, who is based in Khayelitsha, Cape Town, revealed.

Originally from KwaBhaca in the Eastern Cape, Mlata won the World Boxing Council (WBC) Youth junior-featherweight title after he outpointed Ardy Katompa from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) at the Emperors Palace in Kempton Park, Ekurhuleni, last October.

Meanwhile, Mahlangu will be fighting for the first time since he suffered a third round stoppage loss to current SA junior-featherweight champion Siyabulela Hem when he attempted to reclaim the national title at the Orient Theatre in East London in December 2024. – Monwabisi Jimlongo
