History was made in Orlando East, Soweto, when one of South Africa’s most famous football venues, Orlando Stadium, was renamed Orlando Amstel Arena following the signing of a five-year contract with the beer company on Tuesday afternoon.
The deal was confirmed by the Buccaneers, Stadium Management South Africa (SMSA) and Amstel. Despite the name change, the venue is still owned by the City of Johannesburg and managed by SMSA.
Coincidentally, the stadium underwent a name change on the same day Pirates and Premier Soccer League (PSL) chairman Irvin Khoza celebrated his 78th birthday.
