A wet behind the ears Sibulele ‘Lova’ Soboois has said that he’s not overly concerned about fighting an experienced boxer in Simangele ‘Smash’ Hadebe whom she meets later this month.
Based in Khayelitsha, Cape Town, the unbeaten Soboois will challenge World Boxing Organisation (WBO) Africa female flyweight champion Hadebe at the Silver Lakes Farm in Pretoria on Saturday, 28 February.
“Yes, Smash is more experienced compared to me, but that doesn’t mean that I fear her. I’m really not afraid of her. I just respect her. This is my time and she must make way for me. I’m going there to win the fight,” Soboois said.
Trained by Xolani Kemka, the 24-year-old Soboois, who has won all her four fights with one of those wins being a knockout, last fought when she defeated Zizo Skoti in September.
Meanwhile, Hadebe will be making the first defence of the WBO title she claimed after she defeated Nigerian boxer Kehinde Olamiposi Solomon at the Kagiso Memorial and Recreation Centre, Krugersdorp, in September last year.
Hadebe, a 2023 Female Boxer of the Year award winner and the current South African flyweight titlist, has been inside the ring in more than 20 professional bouts. – Monwabisi Jimlongo
