History will be made should the Gingxana brothers, Hlumelo and Oyisa, win titles in their respective weight divisions as they fight this Saturday and three weeks later.
Hlumelo Gingxana will be fighting for the vacant Eastern Cape lightweight title against Aphiwe Magobiyane at the Thobi Kula Indoor Sports Centre in Komani.
And his younger brother Oyisa is set to clash with Athi Klaas in a vacant Eastern Cape junior-bantamweight title fight at the Ncumisa Kondlo Hall in Peddie on Sunday, 22 February.
“The Gingxana brothers are on the verge of history. When Hlumelo wins, he will be the first ever champion from Braelyn. Something like that has never happened before. And when Oyisa wins his Eastern Cspe title on the 22nd, Braelyn will have its first ever champs from the same househould in the same month,” Lonwabo Witbooi, who trains the Gingxanas, said.
Hlumelo was due to have fought for the provincial title last year. However, former Eastern Cape champion Siseko Makeleni ducked him for almost a year.
And that sit down well with Witbooi, who petitioned Boxing South Africa (BSA), asking the fistic regulator to strip Makeleni. BSA duly obliged and stripped Makeleni last month.
