Two wily trainers will be on opposing corners as professional boxing returns to Port Alfred with Siphenathi Nobanda and Avuyile Mpikwa facing off against each other in a provincial championship title fight at the Titi Jonas Community Hall on Saturday.

Trainer Kholekile ‘KC’ Cengani will bark orders from Nobanda’s corner while Phila ‘Mapetla’ Mzamo is set to usher the unbeaten Mpikwa into war as the vacant Eastern Cape featherweight title will be at stake at the Port Alfred venue, which will host its first boxing tournament since December 2023.

Nobanda from Amalinda in KuGompo City goes to the fight carrying six wins with one knockout and two losses. On the other hand, Duncan Village-born Mpikwa has won his two professional fights by stoppages.

Meanwhile, the main supporting bout will see Makhanda-born Phumlani Maloni and Sivenathi July from KwaNojoli exchanging leather in a six rounds strawweight tie.
