Almost two years after winning the South African female featherweight title, Cape Town-based boxer Ntombokuqala Tolashe will finally get an opportunity to defend her crown for the first time.
Tolashe, who won the title after she dethroned former champion Matshidiso Mokatsane in August 2024, will be coming up against Caleigh Swart in a bout, which will pit Cape Town boxers against each other, at the Grand West Casino in Goodwood on Saturday, 8 August.
“Yes, Tolashe is going to defend her title against Caleigh Swart in August,” Tolashe’s manager Welsh Macibela confirmed.
Tolashe, who comes from Samora Machel in Cape Town, only had one fight this year, which was a win over Zimbabwean boxer Patience Mastara in Kimberley almost three months ago.
Swart, meanwhile, bounced back from losing to Simamkele Tutsheni in an International Boxing Organisation (IBO) Africa female junior-featherweight title last August and registered a first round technical knockout victory over Seani Morite in April. – Monwabisi Jimlongo
