Phumelela ‘The Truth’ Cafu continues to prepare for his long-awaited ring return as he will collide with Filipino boxer Jemuel Aranas in Johannesburg on Saturday, 1 August.
Cafu, who lost his World Boxing Organisation (WBO) junior-bantamweight crown after he was stopped in the seventh round by Jesse ‘Bam’ Rodríguez in the United States of America (USA) last July, faces the Filipino in a 10 rounds bout.
“We are continuing with our fight preparations. I will definitely be ready for Jemuel by the time the fight comes,” the Duncan Village-born Cafu remarked.
The former South African junior-bantamweight champion’s inactivity has cost him his WBO rating. However, he’s rated 13th in the World Boxing Council (WBC) ratings.
Meanwhile, Aranas is a native of Cebu in the Philippines, who has a professional record of nine victories with five stoppages, three losses and a draw.
The 21-year-old Aranas has fought twice this year, registering wins over his compatriots Jeric Noynay and Renoel Pael. – Monwabisi Jimlongo
