It was expected that Ugandan boxer Herbert Matovu was going to give Jose Kadima from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) a tough fight when they clashed on Saturday evening, however it was not to be as their bout lasted only 36 seconds.
Kadima, who never smiles, finished Matovu off quickly at the Emperors Palace in Kempton Park, Ekurhuleni, to improve his professional record to nine wins with seven knockouts. Matovu came to the fight with an impressive record of nine wins with eight stoppages and a loss.
And guiding Kadima to victory in the vacant World Boxing Council (WBC) Africa heavyweight title fight brought a smile to his trainer Sean McMinnie.
“It’s a bit surreal. It’s kicking in, hour after hour. I’m feeling good and the champ is feeling good as well. He’s on a wave and I think the energy is gonna be high for a couple of weeks. We are just going to continue building on this,” McMinnie remarked.
This was Kadima’s third win in three fights this year having stopped Johnny Muller in the first round at the same Kempton Park venue two months ago. Before that, the 29-year-old Kadima outpointed Brazilian opponent Mateus Munhoz da Penha in March. – Monwabisi Jimlongo
