There were goals galore at Loftus Versfeld in Pretoria on Wednesday evening as Mamelodi Sundowns thrashed AmaZulu 5-2 in a Betway Premiership match.
The Brazilians scored their first goal through Brayan León’s beautiful strike in the 25th minute after he had combined with Cassius Mailula.
Five minutes later, Teboho Mokoena increased the African champions’ lead with a thunderous free kick, which beat Usuthu goalkeeper, Wilfried Kouassi.
And Zimbabwean-born striker, Thandolwenkosi Ngwenya, cut the deficit to half seven minutes before the half-time break.
Two minutes into the second half, Tashreeq Matthews restored the Tshwane giants’ lead as he made it 3-1 and León completed his brace five minutes later.
In-form AmaZulu top goalscorer, Ngwenya, scored his second goal of the match in the 67th minute.
Sundowns were not done yet as Bennet Mokoena, who is only 19 years old, scored the Brazilians’ fifth goal in referee’s added time.
Elsewhere, Richards Bay FC were held to a 2-2 draw by Kaizer Chiefs while Lamontville Golden Arrows defeated Stellenbosch FC 1-0 and Polokwane City played to a goalless draw with Milford FC.
