After tipping the scales at 58,65 kilograms, International Boxing (IBO) female junior-lightweight champion, Bernice ‘The Badger’ Ferreira, confidently said that she was going to add the World Boxing Council (WBC) belt to her collection.
Ferreira clashes with WBC female junior-lightweight titlist and French-born Canadian, Caroline Veyre, in a unification bout at the State Farm Arena in Atlanta, Georgia, United States of America (USA) on Sunday morning, South African time.
“I’m already making history for my country, where I’m the first female fighter to be fighting in a unification. The cherry on top will be when I win,” Ferreira remarked.
Ferreira won the IBO title after she outpointed Malawian opponent, Ellen Simwaka, at the Wild Coast Sun, Bizana, three months ago.
The 34-year-old Ferreira is still unbeaten, having won all her 10 fights with four of those wins coming via stoppages. Veyre, meanwhile, has won 11 bouts and lost once.
