The South African Under-23 national team produced a brilliant second half performance as they beat their Algetian counterparts 3-1 in an international friendly match played at the Dr Petrus Rantlai Molemela Stadium in Mangaung on Thursday afternoon.

The Algerians shot to the lead when Spain-born forward, Yanis Senhadji Chikhaoui, beat South African goalkeeper, Fletcher Smythe-Lowe, a minute before the half-time break.

And the South Africans were quick off the mark at the beginning of the second half as they scored twice in a space of six minutes. Quwan Plaatjies equalised four minutes into the second half and Nhlanhla Gasa gave Raymond Mdaka’s boys the lead in the 55th minute.

Faiz Abrahams, who plays for Kaizer Chiefs, made sure that the scoreline was out of Algeria’s reach when he scored the South Africans’ third goal in the 72nd minute.

Meanwhile, the two teams are going to meet again in the second international friendly match at the same Mangaung venue at 15h00 this coming Sunday.
