A double booked venue has forced MTC Nestor Sunshine Tobias Boxing and Fitness Academy boss, Nestor Tobias, to move next month’s tournament from Rundu to Windhoek.

Initially, former South African junior-featherweight champion, Ayabonga ‘Jay Jay’ Sonjica, was due to challenge World Boxing Organisation (WBO) Global junior-featherweight titlist, Fillipus ‘Energy’ Nghitumbwa, in Rundu on Saturday, 21 November.

However, the tournament has now been moved to Mövenpick Hotel in the capital, Windhoek. Rundu, a town in the border of Namibia and Angola, is about 716 kilometres from Windhoek.

“The decision to transfer the event follows a recent site visit to Rundu, where organisers were informed of an unavoidable double booking at the original venue,” Tobias said in a statement.

“To prioritise the event’s success and avoid the logistical challenges of further postponements, the leadership team has shifted the proceedings to the capital city.

“While we were looking forward to hosting this event at Rundu, this venue shift to Windhoek allows us to maintain the original date and deliver the high-quality experience our guests expect. We have secured the prestigious Mövenpick Hotel to ensure the event proceeds without further disruption.”

Meanwhile, this is the same tournament where Siphosethu Mvula from Duncan Village in KuGompo City will square up against Namibian opponent, Marthin de Porres Mbwangungu Mukungu, in a WBO Africa junior-lightweight title fight.

Another South African boxer, Ismael Kadri, is also fighting in the same tournament. Kadri clashes with Namibian boxer, Mateus ‘The Beast’ Heita, in a WBO Africa featherweight title contest.
