A 2-2 draw with Baroka FC and a 3-0 hiding by SuperSport United have forced TS Galaxy president Tim Sukazi to act fast and appoint Owen da Gama as the club’s new coach.
Da Gama, who is going to be reunited with some of his former Highlands Park players, fills the gap which was created by the sacking of coach Daniel ‘Dance’ Malesela in December.
After firing Malesela, Sukazi appointed Zipho Dlangala as caretaker coach, but the job seemed too much for Dlangalala as he only managed to pick up one point from a possible six.
Da Gama is going to be in charge of the team when they host struggling Eastern Cape side Chippa United at the Mbombela Stadium in Nelspruit on Saturday.
This is going to be Chilli Boys coach Malesela’s first match against the Rockets since they fired him in December.
‘‘Owen is a seasoned coach who has lots of experience in the local game. Most importantly, Owen has a good understanding of the bulk of
our current squad after having worked with them at Highlands Park,’’ Sukazi, who bought the status of Highlands Park before the beginning of the season, said.
‘‘As a club we took the view that we would be best placed with a coach who has experience in the local game as the season is already on the run and there is no time to orientate a coach who has never coached in
DStv Premiership. Given where we are in the season, we wanted someone who will hit the ground running from the onset.’’
