A third boxing tournament has been cancelled because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

TK Promotions’ tournament, which was going to headlined by a clash between South African junior-welterweight champion Xolani Mcotheli and Prince Dlomo, at the Greenhills Stadium in Randfontein on Sunday, is off.

According to Boxing South Africa (BSA) manager in Gauteng Hloks Ramagole, the tournament was called off after some of the boxers billed to fight in it were found to be COVID-19 positive.

‘‘It is with sadness that I have to be the bearer of bad news. TK tournament that was scheduled to take place on the 13th December 2020 is now officially postponed due to medical reasons. I can confirm that
this was beyond the promoter’s control,’’ Ramagole said in a statement.

‘‘I humble myself and ask boxers to take care of themselves during the festive season, COVID-19 is real. I can say without doubt that COVID-19 results on this particular tournament forcefully called for
an indefinite postponement. To those who tested positive COVID-19 is not a death sentence.’’

This set back follows after Rumble Africa Promotions (RAP) and Xaba Promotions called off their tournaments.

RAP’s tournament, which was scheduled for Orient Theatre in East London on Sunday, 5 December, was called off after the Buffalo City Metropolitan Municipality (BCCM) closed down all its libraries and
municipal halls because of the coronavirus.

And Xaba Promotions’ tournament, which was pencilled for the East London International Convention Centre (ICC) on Saturday, 12 December, was also postponed because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
