The training regime of Duncan Village boxer Yanga ‘Showtime’ Sigqibo has been eased.
This was revealed by Sigqibo’s trainer Spokes Witbooi, who added that they decided to go this route as the boxer’s next fight is only more than two months away.
Sigqibo is going to fight against a soon-to-be announced opponent on Sunday, 25 April.
“Yes, we have just slowed down seeing that the fight is in late April. Remember, we just started a fight programme that suited Oubaali, our previous opponent,” Witbooi said.
“After it was called off, I decided to slow proceedings down then in few weeks’ time from now we gonna start a new programme . Also you must remember that I’m dealing with physical, mental and psychological stuff here.”
Sigqibo was preparing for a fight against World Boxing Council (WBC) bantamweight champion Nordine Oubaali in March.
However, things changed as Oubaali is now scheduled to face Thai boxer Nawaphon Kaikanha in Paris, France, in Saturday, 13 March.
“We are still awaiting confirmation of a new opponent,” East London-based Witbooi said.
