AmaZulu coach Benedict McCarthy has said that players deserve to go to recess after clubs played their last matches this past weekend before the FIFA break.
McCarthy led Usuthu to a 2-0 win over struggling Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila in a DStv Premiership encounter at the King’s Park
Stadium in Durban on Saturday.
“First of all, I wanna congratulate the players, coaching staff, everyone for the hard work we are putting. We work hard every day and
it’s so nice when we come to matches,” McCarthy said referring to their match against Vhadau Vha Damani.
“I still thought we had a lot of chances to put the game out of reach.
In the second half, TTM came. They made a game of it. They tried to come. We were always in control and managed the game. We brought some fresh legs, we just needed a little bit of a different scenario. The three points I’m happy with that it brings us closer to number five,
number four.”
Meanwhile, AmaZulu first choice goalkeeper Veli Mothwa has joined the Bafana Bafana camp ahead of their two important Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Ghana at home and Sudan away. And McCarthy believes
that Mothwa can challenge Ronwen Williams for the Bafana number one jersey.
“It’s good, the players are going to get a well-deserved break. We wanna continue to play, we are in a good run. The international break
comes at a time when you didn’t really need a break,” McCarthy said.
“Veli Mothwa is a direct threat to Ronwen Williams. It’s a great opportunity for him. I think he’s got every possibility and quality to
push Ronwen Williams. We will regroup again on the weekend. We have a score to settle with Black Leopards after they beat us in the Nedbank Cup.”
