Cape Town City chairman John Comitis reckons that his team deserve to be in a better position than it’s the case at the moment.
The Citizens are seventh on the DStv Premiership table with 27 points after winning six times, drawing nine matches and losing six.
“It’s mind boggling how we are not in the top-four pack with the kind of display we put out there. Now is the hard slog, the pressure is higher. The players need to step up and take account, certainly it’s a top squad we have assembled. We have never been lower than six,” Comitis said.
Meanwhile, the former Wits University and Cape Town Spurs midfielder has revealed that they have not abandoned plans to have their own stadium. And Comitis eyes Hartleyvale Stadium, a venue Cape Town clubs used in the past, as a future home of the Citizens.
“That’s still in our equation to have our own stadium. It takes time to build a stadium. We are in for three-four-year period before we can see that to fruition,” he said.
At the moment, the Citizens are going to share Cape Town Stadium with Western Province Rugby. They have been using the venue as their home ground for more than four years.
“We are at a crossroad now. Renegotiating our situation with Cape Town Stadium, we are actually delighted in the way that we have been received by Cape Town Stadium. The intention is for us to be there for all 15 games. I’m very encouraged with the attitude they have taken towards us,” Comitis said.
