A Pitso Mosimane-led Al Ahly beat his former team Mamelodi Sundowns 2-0 in the first leg of the CAF Champions League quarter-finals at the Al Salam Stadium in Cairo, Egypt, on Saturday evening.
Taher Mohamed and Shalabi Mohsen scored for the Red Devils in each half. Mohamed found the back of the net in the 23rd minute.
It looked like the Brazilians were going to come back until Mohsen netted the Red Devils’ second goal in the 89th minute.
This was the first time that Mosimane faced Sundowns since leaving the Tshwane giants for the Cairo-based side more than six months ago.
The Red Devils visit the Brazilians in the second leg, which is going to be played in Pretoria next Saturday.
