Duncan Village boxing trainer Mzamo ‘Chief’ Njekanye is praying that Tajikistan boxer Shavkatdzhon Rakhimov wins when he faces Kenichi Ogawa from Japan.
Rakhimov and Ogawa are scheduled to collide in a vacant International Boxing Federation (IBF) junior-lightweight title fight in Dubai on Friday, 20 August.
The winner of this bout is going to defend against Njekanye’s boxer Azinga ‘Golden Boy’ Fuzile.
Rakhimov stopped Fuzile in the eighth round when they fought in an IBF junior-lightweight elimination bout in East London in 2019.
“I’m praying for Rakhimov to win this fight. There is something that I want to see,” Njekanye said.
“You will remember that Rakhimov caused us a lot of heartaches when he stopped Golden Boy in 2019. We have a loss because of him.”
Njekanye added that he’s rooting for a Rakhimov because they have unfinished business with the Tajik.
“We want to prove that losing to him was a mistake. The most important thing is to prove who is the best between Azinga and Rakhimov. We want to fight against him and we are confident we are going to beat him,” Njekanye said.
