Siya Kolisi believes that lack of discipline was the Springboks’ undoing during their 22-17 loss to the British and Irish Lions in the first Test at the Cape Town Stadium on Saturday evening.
The Boks gave away a 12-3 half time lead to lose to the Lions in an encounter, which could best be described as a game of two halves.
“We started well in the first half. We controlled the set-pieces, scrum and everything,” Kolisi, who captains the Boks, said.
“I think second half discipline let us down, it was penalty after penalty. We missed opportunities in the kicking game. We were our own enemies. I thought we could have done better. I thought we made a couple of tactical mistakes.”
The World Cup-winning captain added that the Boks must up their game in the last two Test matches, which are also going to be played in Cape Town.
“There’s a lot that we need to work on. Discipline is number one in the things that we have to focus on,” Zwide-born Kolisi said.
