Swallows FC coach Brandon Truter has congratulated his players following their 2-1 win over Orlando Pirates in an MTN8 quarter-final clash at the Orlando Stadium in Soweto on Saturday evening.
As a result of the win, the Dube Birds flew into the semi-finals of the eight-team competition.
Swallows’ goals were scored by Ruzaigh Gamildien while Kabelo Dlamini netted for the Buccaneers.
“The result means a lot to us, but also it impacts on the load we had. It was a massive load, well done to the guys. It was a big shift to come to Orlando and come away with the result,” Truter said.
The Dube Birds showed their Soweto rivals no respect, especially in the first half.
“What I liked also in the second half is the resilience when Pirates came to us. We didn’t give much away,” the Mitchell Plain-born coach said.
Meanwhile, Pirates coach Josef Zinnbauer admitted that the Birds were the better team, especially in the first half.
“I think the first 20 minutes we were not in the game. The build-up was not enough. High pressure from Swallows was good. Second half was much better . We needed a little bit of luck,” the German said.
