Noxolo Makhanavu has vacated her South African female flyweight title after struggling with weight.
Makhanavu from Scenery Park in East London confirmed that she is not a South African champion anymore after she vacated her title this week.
“Yes, I have vacated my title. I wrote to BSA this week informing them that I had decided to vacate the title,” Makhanavu revealed.
Makhanavu scared her older brother Xola Sifama when she collapsed while they were jogging ahead of her fight against Simangele Hadebe in March. The fight got postponed following her health scare.
She has since moved up two divisions and will campaign in the bantamweight division.
“I have picked up weight and it’s difficult for me to make the flyweight division. I have decided to move to the bantamweight division. Last time I collapsed while I was preparing for my fight against Simangele. I really don’t want to experience that again thus I have moved to the bantamweight,” Makhanavu said.
The 35-year-old Makhanavu has not fought since her win over Portia Base in 2017.
