Dr Thulani Ngwenya, the chief medical officer of the South African Football Association (SAFA), has thanked the government for allowing fans back at the stadiums.

Ngwenya was responding to an 11 October 2021 Government Gazzette, which revealed amendments that have been made to allow spectators at sporting events – both indoor and outdoor.

“I need to clarify that this is a pilot project. It is done to check all our systems that we have put in place that they are adequate and they are ready for us to start allowing spectators back and allowing stadiums to go back to full capacity in a phased manner,” Ngwenya said.

People are going to apply online and the system will shut off once 2000 applications have been received.

Successful individuals will be required to bring their original identity documents and vaccination cards (digital or printed) when they go to the stadium.
