Using his predatory instincts, Asemahle ‘Predator’ Wellem entered his name in boxing history books as he won the South African title in only his fourth professional fight.

Wellem stopped Cowin Ray in the fourth round to claim the SA super-middleweight title at the SunBet Arena in Pretoria on Saturday evening.

The 21-year-old Wellem sent a flurry of blows to a hapless Pretoria-born Ray and forced referee Simon Mokadi to stop the proceedings.

But it has to be said that there were moments when Ray looked like he was going to stop Wellem. However, Chintsa-born Wellem survived those moments and soldiered on to claim victory.

Meanwhile, former International Boxing Organisation (IBO) minimumweight champion Simphiwe Konkco suffered a seventh round stoppage loss to Filipino boxer Garen Diagan.
