American boxer Shakur Stevenson stopped Suichiro Yoshino from Japan in the sixth round during their World Boxing Council (WBC) lightweight elimination bout at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey, United States on Sunday morning (South African time).

Stevenson was superior as he showed more strength before stopping Yoshino to stretch his professional record to 20 wins with 10 knockouts. Yoshino dropped to 16 wins (12 stoppages) and a loss. 

The 25-year-old Stevenson, a former WBC and World Boxing Organisation (WBO) junior-lightweight champion, is in line to face the winner between Devin Haney and Vasiliy Lomachenko. 

Haney is scheduled to defend his WBC, World Boxing Association (WBA), International Boxing Federation (IBF) and World Boxing Organisation (WBO) lightweight titles against Lomachenko on 20 May.
