Siyabulela Gwambi is back in charge as Chippa United caretaker coach as the struggling Gqeberha-based Chilli Boys are trying to avoid the dreaded drop.

Gwambi, who was elevated to his current position on Monday, took over as caretaker coach after Kurt Lentjies’ demotion to the club’s development structures. Lentjies’ demotion followed after the Chilli Boys were beaten 2-0 by Orlando Pirates at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Gqeberha on Saturday evening.

The Chilli Boys, who are 14th on the DStv Premiership table with 26 points from 25 games, are under pressure to produce results in an effort to stave off relegation.

They face 15th-placed Marumo Gallants away at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane on Wednesday evening. They desperately need to win this match as a loss will see them dropping to 15th place.
