Tuesday’s return of the triumphant Springboks from the Rugby World Cup in France has saved the members of the Boxing South Africa (BSA) board from being grilled.
The board members, whose two-year term in office expires at the end of November, were going to be grilled by Parliament’s portfolio committee on sport, arts and culture on Tuesday.
However, plans changed on Monday after members of the portfolio committee on sport decided to postpone the meeting in order to go welcome the history-making Boks at the OR Tambo International Airport in Kempton Park on Tuesday morning.
“Kindly be informed that the meeting scheduled for Tuesday, 31 October 2023 has been postponed. Members of the committee will be part of the delegation that receive the Springboks at OR Tambo International Airport,” a letter from Zoleka Kula, secretary of the portfolio committee on sport, arts and culture, said.
After writing the letter postponing the meeting, Kula didn’t say as to when they will meet again after the return of the four-time world champions.
The BSA board has been heavily criticised lately after taking some unpopular decisions chief among them being the suspension of the boxing regulatory body’s director of operations Mandla Ntlanganiso in August.
Ntlanganiso is yet to be charged despite being suspended on 10 August, which is almost three months ago.
