Erstwhile world champion Simphiwe ‘V12’ Vetyeka will be able to bark orders from the corner when his boxers are fighting after he obtained a trainer’s licence from Boxing South Africa (BSA) last week.

The former World Boxing Association (WBA) ‘Super’ featherweight, International Boxing Organisation (IBO) bantamweight and featherweight champion is the chief trainer at Paradise Boxing Club in Nxarhuni.

“It feels good to have received my trainer’s licence. This means that I will be able to be in my boxers’ corner when they are fighting,” Vetyeka said.

“This kind of experience is different from what I was used to as a boxer. I’m passing all my boxing knowledge to the boxers and I’m happy that they are responding very well.”

Vetyeka watched from the sidelines when his boxer Luthando Mbumbulwana was stopped by current national junior-featherweight champion Bongani Mahlangu at Vodaworld in Midrand last month.

The 42-year-old former SA bantamweight champion was ineligible to be in Mbumbulwana’s corner as he was not licensed at the time. Khangelani Jack, who was once a chief trainer at Paradise Boxing Club, was asked to go man Mbumbulwana’s corner.
