Colin ‘Nomakanjani’ Nathan returns to the Philippines for the first time in almost a decade as he will usher Sivenathi ‘Special One’ Nontshinga into war when he faces Regie ‘The Filipino Phenom’ Suganob next week.
Nontshinga and Suganob are set to clash in an International Boxing Federation (IBF) junior-flyweight elimination bout at the Bohol Wisdom Gym in Tagbilaran City on Saturday, 12 September.
The last time Nathan barked orders from a corner in the Philippines was when Hekkie ‘Hexecutioner’ Budler lost to Filipino boxer, Milan Melindo, via a split decision in an IBF junior-flyweight title contest at the Waterfront Hotel and Casino, Cebu City, in September 2017.
“I still maintain that we won that fight. They robbed us,” the award-winning Nathan remarked as he left South Africa for the Philippines together with Nontshinga and Bernie Pailman on Saturday.
Meanwhile, veteran referee, Tony Weeks from the United States of America (USA), is going to be the third man inside the ring when the gong goes.
Weeks’ American compatriot Steve Weisfeld, Krieksang Thonghong from Thailand and Japanese Koji Tanaka will be the judges with IBF president Daryl Peoples being the fight supervisor. – Monwabisi Jimlongo
