With the World Boxing Council (WBC) International and Youth junior-featherweight belts in the bag, Kaya Mlata has made his intentions clear that he wants to challenge for the South African title now.
Mlata defeated Zimbabwean boxer, Hassan Milanzi, by a sixth round stoppage to claim the World Boxing Council (WBC) International junior-featherweight title at the Makers Landing in Cape Town on Saturday evening.
Having won all his 11 fights, with six of those wins coming from knockouts, Mlata now wants to rule in the South African junior-featherweight division.
“Everything seems to be stalling in as far as the South African junior-featherweight title is concerned. Be that as it may, I’m ready to challenge for the title should an opportunity arise. I’ll wait for the right time to take the title,” Mlata said.
Boxing South Africa (BSA) approved Mlata’s challenge for the SA junior-featherweight title more than two months ago, however, so far nothing has come out of that approval by the fistic regulator.
And on his fight against Milanzi, Mlata said: “It was a nice fight. I give credit to the opponent for giving me the fight. I saw early on during the fight that he was not going to finish the rounds.” – Monwabisi Jimlongo
