Apart from looking at adding yet another belt to his collection, a perfect record is what Kaya Mlata will also be defending when he trades blows with Zimbabwean boxer, Hassan ‘Starboy’ Milanzi, at the Makers Landing in Cape Town on Saturday.
Having won all his 10 fights, with five of those victories coming from stoppages, Mlata clashes with Milanzi in a vacant World Boxing Council (WBC) International junior-featherweight title contest.
“This is a very important fight as a win will result in me moving up the WBC ratings. I’m coming up against someone I have never seen fighting before. However, I’m happy that my coaches have watched his videos. I have prepared for everything that he’s going to throw at me,” Mlata, who met Milanzi for the first time on Wednesday, said.
KwaBhaca-born Mlata, a WBC Youth junior-featherweight champion, is fighting for the second time this year. He registered a sixth round stoppage win over former South African junior-featherweight titlist, Bongani Mahlangu, in April.
Milanzi, meanwhile, goes to the Mlata fight following a unanimous decision points win over Malawian boxer, Yamikani Mlambo, in May. The former Zimbabwean bantamweight champion has a professional record of 15 wins with nine stoppages, four defeats and a draw. – Monwabisi Jimlongo
