Bongani ‘Wonderboy’ Mahlangu’s unfinished business in Tanzania stands in the way of a fight between the Boipatong-born South African champion and Mzuvukile ‘Old Bones’ Magwaca.
Magwaca will only get an opportunity to face Mahlangu once the current SA junior-featherweight champion has clashed with Tanzanian boxer Fadhili Omari Majiha in a rematch. Duncan Village-born Magwaca, who is rated number one in South Africa, has called out the 44-year-old Vaal resident.
“We don’t have a problem in fighting against Magwaca. We will, however, deal with him later. Firstly, we have to deal with the Tanzanian,” Sandile Mahlangu, who manages Mahlangu, said.
Mahlangu suffered a controversial loss to Majiha during their World Boxing Council (WBC) Africa junior-featherweight title contest at the PTA Karume Hall in Dar-Es-Salaam in October last year.
After Mahlangu’s brother Sandile had voiced his displeasure over the way their fight was handled, he then appealed to the WBC asking for a rematch with Majiha.
“We appealed to the WBC and it was decided at the convention that we should be given a rematch. But the Tanzanians have not spoken to us since. We even wrote to the Tanzanian promoter (Baraka Kasenzelo) and he has not responded. We have now decided to write to the the ABU president Houcine Houichi,” Sandile revealed.
After losing to Majiha, Mahlangu dropped to 26 victories (14 knockouts) and 10 losses while the Tanzanian improved to 32 wins (15 stoppages), 14 defeats and four draws.
