Unbeaten Japanese boxer Junto Nakatani became a three-division world champion after he stopped Alexandro Santiago from Mexico in the sixth round at Kokugikan Arena in Tokyo, Japan, on Saturday.

With the stoppage, Nakatani wrestled the World Boxing Council (WBC) bantamweight title away from the 28-year-old Mexican, who was trying to make a first successful defence of his crown.

After dominating from the first bell, the 26-year-old Nakatani decked Santiago twice in the sixth round and forced fight referee Laurence Cole from the United States of America to stop the proceedings.

Nakatani, a former World Boxing Organisation (WBO) flyweight and junior-bantamweight titlist, has improved his record to 27 victories and 20 knockouts. On the other hand, Santiago dropped to 28 wins (14 stoppages), four defeats and five draws.
