Tuesday’s verdict delivered by the High Court of South Africa Gauteng Division, Pretoria, is going to have far reaching implications in as far as the National Professional Boxing Promoters Association (NPBPA) is concerned.

Already, promoters who call themselves Justice For All in Boxing South Africa are calling for an elective conference where they will elect a new leadership, which will adhere to the provisions of the Boxing Act.

The High Court ruled that the NPBPA had no legal standing to take Minister of Sport Zizi Kodwa, Minister of Finance Enoch Godongwana, Boxing South Africa (BSA) and Mandla Ntlanganiso to court.

The NPBPA had taken Kodwa, Godongwana, BSA and Ntlanganiso to court challenging Ntlanganiso’s appointment as the boxing regulator’s accounting authority.

“We feel that boxing promoters should immediately call for an elective conference after licences have been approved by BSA so that we can have a voice in boxing. I think the road is clearly paved now on the procedures going forward. As soon as our licences get approved, then we can go for an elective conference,” Justice for All in Boxing South Africa’s Jackie Brice of Jackie Brice Boxing Promotions said.

The NPBPA leadership led by Ayanda Matiti as its chairperson, which failed to adhere to the provisions of the Boxing Act, was elected in Durban in October 2022.
